CHA:DY

TALKS FEMALE EMPOWERMENT WITH INFECTIOUS NEW TRACK ‘LIKE A BOI’

Following the success of her debut EP, My Feet On The Ground, Parisian alt-jazz singer CHA:DY is set to release her latest single Like A Boi, out on Ferocious Talent on Friday 3 August. Hotly-tipped at one to watch for 2018, Cha:dy will also be releasing a narrative led music video, filmed on the streets of London to accompany the track, and her second EP later this year.

Cha:dy is a French singer and songwriter who narrates her story from the hood of Paris to the streets of London through her music. She writes ambitious, unapologetic and frank songs about relationships and heartbreak, often with darker, more introspective undertones. She dissects her own experiences with an impressive honesty and bravery.

After her melancholic and heart-breaking debut My Feet On The Ground, Cha:dy has returned with a bolder and more upbeat sound, embracing both her French and Caribbean roots. For this new single, she has teamed up with producer S.B. for a more electronic sound on the production.

Like A Boi explores themes of female empowerment and patriarchy, challenging the way that women are perceived when they are seen to be confident and determined in love, and life in general. The track tells with honesty the story of a toxic relationship, tinged with jealousy and bitterness, all wrapped up with Cha:dy’s sultry, jazz inspired vocals, an infectious chorus, a bridge sang in her native French and impeccably produced brooding electro beats.

Cha:dy explains, “I wrote this song after something a guy said to me really stuck in my head. We were seeing each other and he said that I was behaving ‘like a boy’, I guess because he was insecure about our relationship. It bothered me to hear that I was behaving like a man because I didn’t need to be reassured by him all the time, as if being confident was a man’s right and not a woman’s.

This track is really important to me because it speaks out for female empowerment. It’s ok to be confident, to be yourself and to be real.”

Growing up in France, Cha:dy started a girl band with her high school classmates, performing in various Paris venues. Moving to London in 2015 to focus on her solo career, she studied at the prestigious BIMM – launchpad of artists Tom Odell, The Kooks, James Bay and many more.

Taking her cues from the silky production of acts such as Janelle Monae and M.I.A and incorporating elements of jazz and soul – Cha:dy’s music is deeply inspired by household names like Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse.

Drawing from her combined influences, Cha:dy thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the characters, concepts and emotions she’s able to portray with each release. She has created her own brand of glittering yet gritty alt-R&B that she presents to us today.
