ANNOUNCE INTIMATE ALBUM RELEASE SHOWS

Dream Wife are gearing up to the release of their long-awaited self-titled debut album, which will be released later this month on January 26th through Lucky Number. Today, they share new single ‘Hey Heartbreaker’ alongside an incredible video animated and directed by Joe Prytherch, more widely known by his moniker Mason London and his role as the former art director of Boiler Room.

Envisioning a dystopian near-future depicting the band as robot performers held in a sleazy bar against their will, Prytherch’s imaginative direction and distinct art style is stunning. Taking loose inspiration from Anime, and the acclaimed Akira, the Robo-Dream Wife’s performance and breakneck escape offers a substantive and incredibly cinematic music video.

Dream Wife told us about the video:

“We were super excited to work with Mason London to bring the world of Hey! Heartbreaker to life. Collaboration is integral in our approach to Dream Wife, and we encourage different creative ideas and paths to mix with our own vision.

It’s uncanny to watch these mechanical, parallel versions of ourselves rock out and then break out. We like to think that in another reality our robot versions are continuing their adventures; perhaps in the forest, perhaps plotting for a robot revolution, perhaps playing wild, secret rock shows to other robos”.

Renowned for their ferocious live shows, the band are also excited to announce an intimate launch show on album release day at the Sebright Arms in London, exclusive to fans signed up to their mailing list, as well as a free in-store at Rough Trade East.  Following which the band will head off to Australia and then a full UK and European tour, which will include their biggest headline show to-date at London’s Heaven.  Live dates below.

ANNOUNCE UK+EUROPEAN TOUR

DREAM WIFE IS OUT JANUARY 26TH, 2018 VIA LUCKY NUMBER

Dream Wife release their long-awaited self-titled debut album early next year and today they share a striking music video for the record’s opening track. Let’s Make Out’, the band’s celebratory ode to femme sexuality and consent, was directed by the bands frequent collaborator Aidan Zamiri and sees the Wives hosting their very own prom. Grab your date and head to prom with Dream Wife now.

Dream Wife explains the video:

“Let’s Make Out is a lighthearted celebration of sexuality. Women are and have a right to be sexual beings. The video is silly, hedonistic and really fun. There is no shame in sexuality, there is no shame in fun. But remember; consent is key.

Proms are synonymous with coming of age, a necessary social before graduation. We threw an irl (in real life) prom at our recent London show to announce our album and the night ended with much of the cast from the video making out and dancing with us on stage. Prom in many ways represents us coming of age as a band and we're hoping to usher in this new era; dancing, making out, making things with our friends and flipping the script every step of the way."

Renowned for their ferocious live show, the band are also excited to announce a UK and European tour, which will include their biggest headline show to-date at London’s Heaven.

DREAM WIFE

ANNOUNCE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM SHARE NEW TRACK ‘LETS MAKE OUT’ – LISTEN HERE

DREAM WIFE IS OUT JANUARY 26TH, 2018 VIA LUCKY NUMBER

London-based and British/Icelandic born Dream Wife announce their long-awaited self-titled debut album. Since forming in 2015 as a college art school project, Dream Wife - a name chosen as commentary on society’s objectification of women - have become one of the foremost up-and-coming bands out of the U.K. They have garnered praise for their early releases and their ferocious live shows, which saw them sell out venues across U.K. and Europe, tour the U.S. with the Kills, and play festival stages all over the world. Now the band are gearing up to release Dream Wife on January 26th, 2018 via Lucky Number, and to celebrate they share a new track “Let’s Make Out.” Listen to the album opener and the band’s very own punk-rock rage-filled rallying cryhere.

Dream Wife is more than just a band, Dream Wife is a way of life. You’ll struggle to find a tighter knit trio than this trio of astrological fire signs. The band came together while they were studying at Brighton University in the U.K., with roommates Rakel – who was born in Iceland and raised in California – and Bella deciding they needed to enlist hotshot guitarist Alice while a few Jägerbombs deep on an indie disco dance-floor. Alice responded to the pair’s Facebook message instantly and the dayglo world of Dream Wife was born. Initially formed as part of a performance art project, they quickly realized that their chemistry was too powerful for them just to be a one time thing. They took themselves out on the road under their own steam, touring Canada and Europe with only four songs and without a booking agent, promoter or a tour manager.

The band chose Dream Wife for its wordplay, not from the 1953 Hollywood rom-com which none of them had ever seen, and for its wry nod to their feminist politics. “It’s a commentary on the objectification of women; the 1950s American Dream stereotype package. Having the dream house, the dream car and the dream wife,” they explain. “We want to flip the script on that. Women aren’t objects; we don’t just fit into one mold. At the start, we joked around calling each other our wives, but by supporting one another, celebrating achievements together and finding strength in female solidarity we’re reclaiming the concept of a ‘wife’. Being in a band is a marriage in itself.”

When it comes to their sound, Dream Wife worships at the twin altars of David Bowie and Madonna. A scene unto themselves, their gigs are a riot of handmade props and stage sets that cover everything from space beaches to haunted graveyards, while their finely tuned show is the product of extreme DIY beginnings. It’s the songs too that make the shows, from the fiery fury of “FUU,” to the new wave politico-pop of “Somebody,” and euphoric old school indie hit “Fire.” These are songs in the classic mould – big, beautiful and crazily catchy. And, of course, there’s the three dynamic women at the band’s core. Alice is convinced the group’s drive and dedication comes from the fact they’re all fire symbols. “We’re a power trio,” she says. “There’s a crazy energy between us.” Bella is in agreement; “It is magic when we’re together.” Get ready to fall under Dream Wife’s spell.

Dream Wife are: Rakel Mjöll (lead vocals), Alice Go (guitar and vocals) and Bella Podpadec (bass and vocals).

Dream Wife today announce a new EP entitled Fire, which will be released through Lucky Number on the 29th September.

“It's a song of explosive emotion; volcanic, eruptive and reflective in turn,” explains the band members, all three of which are astrological fire signs, to The FADER. “During moments of pure connection a bolt of fire can be felt between people. The explosion begins; movement is electric, conversation erratic and you become fully immersed in the moment. Thematically and tonally we explore the paradox present in the symbolism of 'fire' as both a creative and destructive force.”

07/09/16  DREAM WIFE ANNOUNCE HEADLINE SHOW & SHARE VIDEO FOR 'LOLITA'

Dream Wife today share the video for ‘Lolita’, directed by Sam Boullier and Eleanor Hardwick.  The video sees the band explore a favourite genre, horror.  As the band explain:

The idea for the video came from a distaste toward the classic virginal female victim narrative, the damsel in distress scenario. The intention was to make something both playful and angry, toying with many conventional horror movie moments in an unconventional, empowering, silly and scary way.  Using a found footage aesthetic Sam and Eleanor wove together a series of tableaus in which we inhabit roles of the good and the bad, the villain and the victim, satirizing the archetype of the female horror victim.”

In addition, and on theme, the band have also announced a special Halloween headline show at London’s Moth Club with guests tba.
