Release Video for ‘Chasing Lights’ Title track to their debut album out July 12th on Thirty Tigers  Play Blackdeer Festival on 21st June

After the announcement of their debut album and in the midst of their US tour with American rock band Blackberry Smoke, duo Ida Mae today release the alluring video for the title track of their debut album, ‘Chasing Lights’, out July 12th on Thirty Tigers. Ida Mae have a string of big gigs lined up including supporting Greta Van Fleet on their summer US tour and a slot at Bonnaroo on 14th June. The duo will also return to the UK to play Blackdeer Festival on 21st June.

Stephanie and Chris’ vocals intertwine beautifully on ‘Chasing Lights’, the sole cello acting as a third voice, adding depth and a dream-like quality to the track. ‘Chasing Lights’ is a metaphor for everything we’ve been after,” Chris reflects. “For tracing the footsteps of our heroes, for making a life and a living on our own terms.” Shot in the sublime Norfolk countryside, the gorgeous video (directed by Luke Courtenay Smith & Tim Hyland) perfectly echoes the song’s message.

Announce Debut Album ‘Chasing Lights’

Off the back of a US tour and the release of their phenomenal track, ‘If You Don’t Love Me’, husband and wife duo Ida Mae, (Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean) today announce their debut album ‘Chasing Lights’ – out July 12th on Thirty Tigers. Pre-order  HERE.

Ida Mae also release fabulous new single ‘Reaching’, taken from the album, which is available as an instant grat now –  listen here.

Album highlights include ‘If You Don’t Love Me’, which oozes beautiful simplicity that demands your attention. Stephanie’s vocals weave in and out of Chris’ haunting melodies, resulting in a balanced, fresh and elegant sound. The more upbeat ‘Reaching’ is effortlessly bluesy, showcasing the duo in a more vibrant light.

Ida Mae is the sound that Chris Turpin always dreamed of creating. After the break down of their raucous first group, Kill It Kid, Turpin, as opposed to seeing the band’s dissolution as a setback, saw it as an opportunity: “We wanted to make something simple and honest and raw,” says Chris. “We wanted to make a record our way, with no compromises.”

‘Chasing Lights’ was helped to become the masterpiece it is with the guidance of legendary producer Ethan Johns (Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Kings of Leon). The duo’s natural chemistry proved to be an ideal fit for Ethan Johns’ minimalist approach to production. “Ethan records live and very quickly,” explains Turpin. “He loves the naïve discovery of early takes. It could be terrifying at times, but we always trusted his judgment.”

Blending elements of vintage Delta blues and gritty rock and roll with boldly modern arrangements and fearless punk swagger, ‘Chasing Lights’ captures Ida Mae in its purest form. From the pulsating ‘Higher Than Light’ to the Beat poet-inspired ‘My Girl Is A Heartbreak’, ‘Chasing Lights’ is an impressive eclectic debut. Singing together, the couple have an unusual ‘which-is-which’ dynamic.

Support Greta Van Fleet on European and UK Tour

Freshly back from two months touring in the States and with the announcement of their first UK tour in March, husband and wife duo, Ida Mae, (Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean) release the enticing video for new single ‘If You Don’t Love Me’, directed by Tim Hyland and Luke Courtenay Smith with LNT productions.

Filmed in one take at a 17th century old shoe maker’s mansion in the band’s hometown of Norwich, the duo said of the video, “We wanted to capture a sense of late night / early morning, the quiet moment before the sun comes up with a hint of ‘Exile on main street’!”

‘If You Don’t Love Me’ is one of those songs that deserves to be listened to; its beautiful simplicity demands your attention. And, as if in recognition of this fact, the video pays homage to what music should be about: sitting, listening and enjoying a great song. Beginning with a close up of the duo, the one shot camera slowly zooms out, each passer by stopping to enjoy the gorgeous sound coming from the back of the room.

Introducing… Ida Mae

Release New Single ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ through Thirty Tigers Play Omeara 13th March

Fresh back from two months touring in the States and with the announcement of their first UK tour in March, husband and wife duo, Ida Mae, (Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean) release their new single ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ through Thirty Tigers today.

Ida Mae’s magic lies in the sensuous dovetailing of two voices and the intimacy of their songs. Chris' vocals are reminiscent of a Face’s era Rod Stewart or Steve Marriott, while Stephanie combines the delicacy of Patty Griffin with the effortless rock-chic of Alison Mosshart. Singing together, the couple have an unusual ‘which-is-which’ dynamic.

After finding critical acclaim with Kill It Kid, touring the world as newlyweds and working closely with legendary A&R man Seymour Stein, Chris and Stephanie have recently finished recording their debut album with acclaimed producer and friend Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams / Ray Lamontagne / Kings Of Leon / Laura Marling) which is set to be released in early Summer of 2019 through Thirty Tigers.

Touring highlights as Ida Mae include support slots with The Lone Bellow, Nick Mulvey, Nikki Lane, The Marcus King Band, Will Varley and Greta Van Fleet. They have also played Emmylou Harris's Woofstock Festival & Kings Of Leon's Harvest Night in Nashville. Ida Mae play the following UK & Ireland dates:

Starting off simply with Chris’ sweet vocals accompanied on guitar, ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ gradually builds into a crescendo of pure bliss. Stephanie’s vocals beautifully weave over the top of Chris’ falsetto resulting in a balanced, humble sound.

“This is one of the first songs we wrote for the record,” the duo said of the new single. “Ethan encouraged us to perform very intimate vocal takes, everyone playing live side by side in the same room late at night. ‘If You Don’t Love Me’ embodies the simplicity and honesty of the record as a whole. We worked to marry uncommon sonic textures on the record, spanning the decades of our influences. This can be heard in the organic sound of my 1930s National Duolian steel guitar and a 1980s digital auto harp.”

Tickets for their European and UK tour are on sale now.
