COOL - SINGLE  20 APRIL 2018

LAUNCH NIGHT - LEEDS OPORTO SUNDAY 22 APRIL

Leeds three-piece LOUX have announced their second single, COOL, will be released on 20 April 2018 and officially launched on Sunday 22 April at Leeds Oporto. It follows their debut MEET ME HALFWAY, released in November last year, which saw the band make impressive inroads at both press and radio so early in their existence.

COOL is partly inspired by the novel Gone Girl and the concept of some women – so called ‘cool girls’ – who go along with what men demand of them with little concern for themselves. Singer and lyricist Jordan approaches the subject by relating an uncomfortable, personal situation for her with a withering sarcasm that defiantly determines she is indeed not one of those women.

As the lyrics subtly reveal: “Maybe you’re waiting for a girl to be laid back with you / Someone to be cool / The thing about that kinda girl is she doesn’t exist / What am I supposed to do? / Maybe I’d be better by myself? / ‘Cos when you’re with me you’re wishing I was somebody else”.

The song itself – a sassy, dancey, slightly moody amalgam of 90s pop synths and hooks – continues the band’s carefully subtle style of sound textures, effects-laden guitars, minimal yet warm drum rhythms and hypnotic vocals.

Leeds three-piece Loux, debut single, Meet Me Halfway, is released on 10 November

Single launch on the same night at Leeds 360 Club

LOUX are an electronic three-piece band from Leeds, whose music blends an energetic and carefully subtle array of effects-laden guitars, minimal yet warm drum rhythms and hypnotic vocals. They release their debut single, MEET ME HALFWAY, on 10 November 2017 and play a launch show at the 360 Club on the day of the release.

MEET ME HALFWAY is built on layers of synth textures and sub-heavy guitar countermelodies, which crash into a chorus led by arpeggiated analog bass synth. It’s a mesmerising combination.

The single follows the release of two live videos, DARLING and LUNGS, both filmed at the stunning Victoria Baths in Manchester earlier this year. You can watch them here:

LOUX played their first live show in July this year. Their second show, which took place the very next day, was at the Blue Dot Festival at Jodrell Bank, where they shared a bill with the likes of Alt-J, Orbital, Pixies, Leftfield and Warpaint. Quite an achievement.

“We’re really pleased with the response we’ve had so far,” says guitarist Chris. “It was an absolute pleasure to play at Blue Dot to such a big crowd and see so many people as passionate about our music as we are. We just can’t wait to do more.”

With so much achieved in so little time, passionate support from BBC Introducing, a growing live reputation, and several observers speaking of the band in the same breath as Alt-J, it may not be long before they experience such big crowds again.
