NIGHTMARES ON WAX

SHAPE THE FUTURE VIDEO

To celebrate the highly anticipated release of the new NIGHTMARES ON WAX album SHAPE THE FUTURE, the first studio album in half a decade, a new video for the album’s title track has been revealed. The video is directed by RUFFMERCY, who has previously worked on visuals for Run the Jewels and Flying Lotus. The stylised video features the director’s signature animated sketches following the protagonist as he attempts to escape a recurring cycle.

RUFFMERCY had this to say about George Evelyn aka NIGHTMARES ON WAX: “George has managed to stay relevant throughout his career, making uplifting music with positive vibes, and I think that’s key to his longevity. He’s sincere and passionate about his music and that shines through and is definitely an overriding reason why I chose to take on the project. The highlight has been working on the video for Shape the Future; it’s a killer track with a positive message running through it”.

The track is an ode to humankind and the power of positive thought in shaping your own destiny. The song is especially poignant as it features George Evelyn on vocals, something of a rarity throughout his 25-year career.

The marriage of soul, hip-hop, dub and timeless club sounds, that NIGHTMARES ON WAX has been mutating and perfecting for years, finds perhaps its most fluid form yet on SHAPE THE FUTURE. Energised by globetrotting runs of studio sessions and DJ sets, this latest salvo is a masterpiece of contemporary and classic genre-blending, that solidifies his place as an inspirational electronic music figurehead.

NIGHTMARES ON WAX has now announced a full and extensive international tour immediately following the album’s release on 26 January. Full dates as follows:

SHAPE THE FUTURE LP

Warp Records – 26 January 2018

After months of hard work we now have a bulletproof solution that gives our customers the best building platform.

Iconic Warp mainstay NIGHTMARES ON WAX has announced his long-anticipated return with a new album SHAPE THE FUTURE. The marriage of soul, hip-hop, dub and the timeless club sounds that NIGHTMARES ON WAX has been mutating and perfecting for years finds, perhaps, its most fluid form yet on the new album. Energised by globetrotting runs of studio sessions and DJ sets, this latest salvo is a masterpiece of contemporary and classic genre blending that solidifies NIGHTMARES ON WAX’s place as an inspirational electronic music figurehead. No more so than on the shamanistic vocals of recent single BACK TO NATURE and, in particular, the arresting voices of Mozez and Kanye West and Flume collaborator Allan Kingdom, as featured on the brand-new cut CITIZEN KANE.

George Evelyn aka NIGHTMARES ON WAX says:

“Whilst making SHAPE THE FUTURE, I’ve journeyed both inwardly and outwardly all over the world, both physically and emotionally. I feel like I had to mature making this record, as it posed a lot of challenges along the way; more than I anticipated. You’re a different person each day so I could never make the same album again. Expressions change. I’ve brought in a lot of outside people, including musicians and a lot of orchestration. It’s brought a lot of enrichment. Each album to me is a discovery and a reflection; a mirror where I'm at in life over a period of time through writing and touring. It inspires my reality and affects my outlook on things and, in turn, they’re expressed through the music; expressing a message through different sides of emotion and our relationship to our reality”

CITIZEN KANE demonstrates the journey that NIGHTMARES ON WAX has taken over his expansive and influential career. Pushing further into deep, gospel-tinged hip hop than ever before, whilst moulded by a master craftsmen of production and never losing the trademark sound of NIGHTMARES ON WAX. The video’s narrative of Deep South rebirth was shot over the summer in New Orleans, and was directed by James Burns and features Langston Fishburne.

NIGHTMARES ON WAX is one of the most influential artists of a generation, his music having inspired many musicians and producers across the globe over his quarter decade career. As Warp’s longest serving active artist, he has broadened the sound of the label and paved the way for artists such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Mount Kimbie.
