THE JAPANESE HOUSE has shared WE TALK ALL THE TIME, the latest track to be released from her debut album, GOOD AT FALLING, which will be released via Dirty Hit on 1 March.
“It’s about noticing a relationship dying, or changing, whatever way you want to view it,” explains Amber Bain [aka The Japanese House] of the deceptively upbeat WE TALK ALL THE TIME. “It was one of those weird, prophetic songs where I write it down, and then it happens in real life. It’s not because I can tell the future, it’s because I’m creating it, or maybe I can sense it’s going to happen.”
The single follows the announcement of The Japanese House UK headline tour in March, dates as below

THE JAPANESE HOUSE has announced a headline UK tour for March, concluding with a night at London Electric Ballroom. The tour, which takes in seven dates across the UK, will celebrate the release of her debut album, GOOD AT FALLING, which will be released via Dirty Hit on 1 March. Tickets go on sale on Friday 18 January at 9am.THE JAPANESE HOUSE has revealed her debut album GOOD AT FALLING will be released via Dirty Hit on 1 March 2019. Produced by THE JAPANESE HOUSE [aka Amber Bain] BJ Burton [Low, Bon Iver] and the 1975’s George Daniel, GOOD AT FALLING follows four acclaimed EPs and includes the latest single, LILO, released last month. The upbeat new track, FOLLOW MY GIRL, which sees Amber, “trying to find myself a sense of direction”, is available to listen to now and as an instant grat with the album pre-order.
THE JAPANESE HOUSE has shared the video for new single, LILO, out now via Dirty Hit.
Shot in the beautiful surroundings of the English countryside, the video is an emotional depiction of a relationship on the verge of sinking, featuring THE JAPANESE HOUSE [aka Amber Bain] and also starring MARIKA HACKMAN.
“Filming this video was painful, easy, real and surreal all at once. I asked Marika to be in the video because I couldn’t think who better to be in it than the person the song is about. I’m extremely grateful that she said yes; I’m lucky that my ex-girlfriend is also my best friend. It was a slightly mad decision but ultimately, I think we captured exactly what I wanted to, which was a true and genuine representation of the love and intimacy we share. When I watch this video my heart breaks, but in kind of a nice way.”
Following the announcement that THE JAPANESE HOUSE has made her much anticipated return with the brand new single LILO, out now via Dirty Hit, a UK tour has also been announced for November this year. Full dates are as below and tickets will be available on presale from 9am on Wednesday 3 October and on general sale from 9am on Friday 5 October from the link

THE JAPANESE HOUSE makes her much-anticipated return with the brand new single LILO out now via Dirty Hit. Describing the creation of this serene synth-pop track, THE JAPANESE HOUSE explains it was inspired by one of her friends encouraging her into the beginnings of a new relationship that turned out to be, “Everything I needed”. LILO, she continues, is about, “How, to me, her every moment – paired with her approach to life – seemed as serene as the image of a lilo floating across a swimming pool. It is a reminder to me that I am good in falling in love and I can survive falling out of it. I’m good at falling”.
THE JAPANESE HOUSE, otherwise known as Amber Bain, has to date released four acclaimed EPs with Dirty Hit:
POOLS TO BATHE IN [2015]
CLEAN [2015]
SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE [2016]
SAW YOU IN A DREAM [2017]
Further news will follow soon
THE JAPANESE HOUSE [aka Amber Bain] has recorded an exclusive live session for Spotify, performing the former single, FACE LIKE THUNDER, alongside a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s LANDSLIDE, which sees Amber bring her own forward thinking electronic take to the song whilst still harnessing and retaining its raw emotion.
The session comes in the wake of SAW YOU IN A DREAM, the fourth EP from THE JAPANESE HOUSE, which was released earlier this month by Dirty Hit Records. This summer has also seen her play a huge run of festivals, including Latitude and Parklife, with Lollapalooza and Reading / Leeds still to come.
.
THE JAPANESE HOUSE has unveiled two new tracks, SOMEBODY YOU FOUND and 3/3, the latest songs to be taken from the forthcoming SAW YOU IN A DREAM EP released by Dirty Hit Records on 30 June.
You can listen to them here:
SOMEBODY YOU FOUND and 3/3 follow the release of the title track SAW YOU IN A DREAM. Refined and beautifully layered, these tracks show Amber Bain adapting the uniqueness of her sound in exhilarating ways with emotive vocals over slick production, and are further steps forward following the critically acclaimed SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE EP in 2016.
SAW YOU IN A DREAM itself ushers in new, classic tones to her songwriting and is perhaps her most honest offering yet. As she explains, “It’s a very clear message; I didn’t want to drown my vocals in too many harmonies this time because the melody is quite strong on its own. Rather than hide your sadness about your loss of someone, it’s a nice thing to admit ‘I miss them’. That’s why the vocals are quite present”.
The track itself has a relatively dark subject matter, yet the tone beneath the story brings shades of new light, favouring sun-dappled guitars and bright hues. This is reflected in the video, which is her most visually stunning to date and follows Amber through an ever-evolving film set in a series of colourful, dream-like sequences.
You can watch the video for SAW YOU IN A DREAM below too:
The release comes amidst a huge UK and European tour, which began in Oslo in April and included her biggest London show to date – a sold out KOKO – and coincides with a number of festivals throughout the summer. Remaining dates as follows:

THE JAPANESE HOUSE have returned with a stunning new single, SAW YOU IN A DREAM, to be released on 16 June via Dirty Hit Records. Refined and beautifully layered, this is the first track to be taken from her forthcoming fourth EP – also released on 16 June – and is yet another step forwards following the critically lauded SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE EP in 2016.
SAW YOU IN A DREAM comes alongside a huge UK and European tour which recently kicked off in Oslo in April - taking in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Vienna and Zurich along the way - before the UK leg which includes her biggest UK headline show to date at London KOKO. THE JAPANESE HOUSE will also be playing a number of festivals throughout the summer, including Latitude, The Great Escape, Reading and Leeds.
AMBER BAIN [aka THE JAPANESE HOUSE] has announced an extended run of UK and European dates for Spring 2017, which will see her play her biggest London headline show to date at London KOKO. The news comes as THE JAPANESE HOUSE was recently added to the BBC Sound of 2017 long list, fresh after the release of the critically acclaimed third EP SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE.
THE JAPANESE HOUSE ended 2016 with a headline North American tour before joining THE 1975 as special guest on their Arena tour, including two dates at The O2 Arena in London.
The SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE EP builds upon the sonic foundations laid so far by AMBER BAIN, taking her distinctive sound to new heights by a more open embrace of pop sensibilities. With shades of introspection polarised by some of her most euphoric moments to date, this long awaited third EP is a statement release from Amber, confirming her place as one of 2016’s breakthrough artists.

THE JAPANESE HOUSE returns with new single, FACE LIKE THUNDER, the first track from her forthcoming third EP, SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE, released on 11 November through Dirty Hit, the label that brought the world WOLF ALICE and THE 1975.
Premiering on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, FACE LIKE THUNDER presents THE JAPANESE HOUSE at its most sunlit, with a record that sounds as clear and refreshing as emerging from one of those cooling pools of water that are omnipresent in Amber Bain’s imagery. Listen to FACE LIKE THUNDER here:

It’s in a track like this that the dualism of Amber’s work is perhaps at its most present. At once poignantly sad and contemplative, but also surfacing with what sounds like deep breaths of opportunity.
THE JAPANESE HOUSE is the captivating moniker of 21-year-old AMBER BAIN from Kings Langley in Buckinghamshire. Over the past 18 months she has emerged as one of the UK’s most promising artists, following the release of her two acclaimed EPs, POOLS TO BATHE IN and CLEAN, which showcased her ability to create brooding, melancholic electronica that pushes the parameters of alt-pop. She now returns with the SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE EP, which builds upon the sonic foundations laid so far by taking her distinctive sound to new heights with a more open embrace of pop sensibilities. With shades of introspection polarised by some of her most euphoric moments to date, SWIM AGAINST THE TIDE is a statement release from Amber, reaffirming her place as one of 2016’s breakthrough artists.
After spending the majority of the year on the road supporting THE 1975 on their worldwide tour, as well as embarking on her first run of headline dates, THE JAPANESE HOUSE will be hitting the road again this autumn for a series of UK, European and US dates, providing another chance to see this fascinating new artist ahead of what will be no doubt be a huge 2017.
