TOM HINGLEY, front man with INSPIRAL CARPETS during their highly successful live and recording career during the 1990s, has announced a show at LEEDS BELGRAVE MUSIC HALL on FRIDAY 3 AUGUST with support coming from two of the most celebrated and promising bands the North has to offer: Wakefield’s ADORE // REPEL and Manchester’s FALSE ADVERTISING.
To give the band their full name, TOM HINGLEY AND THE KAR-PETS are in essence an Inspiral Carpets tribute band but one with a clear and obvious difference – TOM HINGLEY was vocalist with the band from 1989-2011, successfully overcoming all other vocalists who auditioned for the role at the time, including NOEL GALLAGHER.
He sang all the Inspiral Carpets’ chart hits, including THIS IS HOW IT FEELS, JOE, SATURN FIVE, BITCHES BREW, DRAGGING ME DOWN, I WANT YOU, TWO WORLDS COLLIDE and SHE COMES IN THE FALL; and sang every song on the band’s four revered albums: LIFE in 1990; THE BEAST INSIDE in 1991; REVENGE OF THE GOLDFISH in 1992; and DEVIL HOPPING in 1994.
Formed in 2016, TOM HINGLEY AND THE KAR-PETS have since played numerous headline shows throughout the UK and Europe, as well as prestigious slots at the Shine on Weekender Festival and the Embrace Secret Festival. The band play all the Inspiral Carpets’ greatest hits live, often including the whole of the Revenge of The Goldfish album, alongside a healthy selection of more obscure tracks and fan favourites. The live experience is raw, dynamic and energetic. The band play like their very lives depend upon it with great humour, immeasurable skill and volume.
As Tom says: “The Kar-Pets have a distinct difference to the rest; they offer a tribute to a famous band, in this case Inspiral Carpets, but they feature the Inspiral Carpets’ lead singer, the singer whose vocals powered Top Twenty hits for the Manchester stalwarts throughout the early and mid 1990s.”
As one of the most iconic vocalists of a memorable era, TOM HINGLEY still remains as passionate and energetic as ever. The show in Leeds promises to be a celebratory, euphoric and quite possibly messy affair, but certainly a night to remember.
